We invite you… to join us on an 8 day walking pilgrimage from Brampton to the Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland!
Our main purpose while on the pilgrimage is to pray for God’s forgiveness and for the sins of abortion on behalf of mankind. We also pray for Pope Francis’ intentions. Pilgrims are encouraged to pray for their own special intentions during this journey. If you are unable to attend, there will be a petition box accompanying us. These petitions will be prayed for along the way. The box of petitions will be burned as an offering to God upon completion of the pilgrimage.
The foundations of this walk began with hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from every part of Poland and adjacent countries who walk to the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Czestochowa for the feast of the Assumption on August 15th. During his visit to Canada in 1984, Pope John Paul II called upon Canadians to make pilgrimages to their holy places.
In response to English community pilgrimage to the Martyrs’ Shrine was then organized that same year. Since then, our community has faithfully undertaken this pilgrim journey each year and made it our own tradition. Subsequently, the organization and participation from other cities allow us to gather at various locations along the route. These communities merge and form a unified multicultural community.
As the vast new groups makes its way to the Martyrs’ Shrine, songs are sung and prayers are said as onlookers welcome the pilgrims. We walk from Brampton, Ontario, Canada to The Canadian Martyr’s Shrine, also in Ontario Canada.
